In West Philadelphia, born and raised. This show skyrocketed Will Smith’s career and turned him into the man he is today.
The show starts off as a comedy of a young adult trying to make a better living of himself. As he moves from Philadelphia all the way to California, he realizes how much growing up he has to do.
While still holding onto his Philadelphia roots, Will tries to do what it takes to make it out in California.
Luckily he is not alone. He has family in Bel Air, where he resides throughout the duration of the show and he often brings his family into his ridiculousness.
Coming into Bel Air, Will has no idea how different his life was compared to his California relatives.
With 3 cousins; one entering puberty and exploring her world as a young teenager, one being very intellectual with the highest of mannerisms, and one who is self centered and materialistic; Will realizes that this bunch isn’t as perfect as they seem. Will having to grow up basically on his own, is learning a lot from his 3 cousins, but he also reciprocates with some life lessons that his 3 cousins have yet to encounter due to them never being exposed to it
As the series develops, we see Will and his cousins grow from 4 adolescents with one thing on their mind, into 4 adults all having set futures for themselves.
There is also an amazing parent-child dynamic between Will and his aunt and uncle. Although his uncle is edgy about Will moving in, he warms up to him and knows that of all his kids (Will included), he never had to worry about Will because he knew he could handle it.
Not only does this show have amazing character development and interesting plot lines, but the main theme song is just the icing on the cake.
